Cavan water meter removal video goes viral

A video by a group calling themselves the Cavan Meter Fairies have posted an online video of them removing an Irish Water water meter in Mullagh in the east of the county, promising more will follow. The video has since gone viral, notching up almost 12,000 views online.

Promoting the anti-Water Charge movement, the Cavan Meter Fairies (CMF) say in their Facebook Page Info section they want “to rid homes of unwanted water meters that have been forced on them by a corrupt Government that forgets that they work for us.”

In a Facebook posting on May 17 last, a video shows a person using tools to remove a meter under the description- “the first meter taken out by the Cavan Meter Fairies in Mullagh”.

The group's profile picture is of the tools used to remove the water meter.

The CFM posted again on May 18 saying: “Anybody that requires their meter taken out can pass their details on to the organizers of the below protest before it starts and we will get to work.”

The CFM are the latest group of anti-water meter activists to establish themselves offering to remove people's meters and using social media pages to advertise their alleged illegal activities online.

Apparently started in Dublin, several more Facebook pages claiming to be 'meter fairies' active in Mullingar, Offaly, Carlow and Navan, have popped up in recent months.
