The crowds sample the delicious offerings at the Taste of Cavan today.

Huge numbers at taste of cavan

The Taste of Cavan is at the 'main course' stage with huge numbers reported from the first day of the festival at the equestrian centre.

Out photo shows the mid-afternoon crowds that attended the numerous stalls inside at the venue, which was chosen because of the rise in numbers for the fourth instalment of the foodie hoolie - 35,000 people attended last year.

Already today, cooking demonstrations from chefs Neven Maguire of the world-remowned MacNean's in Blacklion (a double-helping from Neven), TV3's Chef Adrian Martin, RTÉ's The No Salt Chef Brian McDermott, Shane Smith of Fallon & Byrne and Coole Swan Irish Cream Liquer and Máire Dufficy from Bord Bia have tickled the taste buds.

Next up, at 7pm is Kevin Dundon, the proprietor of Dunbrody Country House Hotel  with his demonstration, followed by awards for best new product and best stand before at 8.30pm and a preformance by Cavan Big Band to finish off the night, starting at 9pm.

Don't forget there is a full programme of events planned for tomorrow, too, featuring Rachel Allen, Shay and Caroline of Manor Farm Chicken, BBC award-winner Anjula Devi and Gearoid Lynch of The Olde Post Inn.
