Town centre carpark and bus station let cavan down in litter league

The latest report from the Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) League, which saw Cavan drop from second to ninth place, has highlighted the sites that let the county town down - mainly the town centre carpark at Tesco and outside of Cavan Bus Station - both of which were found to be moderately littered.

Having topped the Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) League on several previous occasions, the result will be a disappointing one for Cavan Town.

Despite problems with a couple of sites, the town retained its 'Cleaner than European Norms’ status overall. Neighbouring Monaghan fared worse, however. It lost that status slipping to 'moderately littered’ and, as such, falling to 34th position out of 40 towns and cities nationwide.

The survey showed another improvement in cleanliness levels overall, with 75% of areas as least as Clean as European Norms.
In respect of the Breffni county, the An Taisce report on behalf of IBAL, commented: “The R198 Killeshandra Approach road into Cavan was a lovely route, which was particularly well presented and maintained, creating a very positive first impression of the town. Cathedral Square and Environs was a particularly good site. With a little extra effort, the two moderately littered sites could easily get the top litter grade - Odeon Film and Shopping Area and Cavan Bus Station (Exterior). There was one seriously littered site at the Tesco Recycle Facility.”
