Party picks three sitting tds at convention

The local members of Fine Gael have chosen to go with Cavan-Monaghan’s three outgoing TDs – Sean Conlan, Minister for Arts, Heather Humphreys and Joe O’Reilly ahead of the next election.

At the party's general selection convention in the Kilmore Hotel last night, Tuesday, September 9, the three sitting Dáil representatives were the only candidates who contested the selection.

The potential selection of Deputy Conlan in the run up to convention is however the one that made the most headlines, given that, as early as the day of the convention, he publicly refused to give Taoiseach Enda Kenny his personal support.

However, he did state that Fine Gael was still the best party to lead the country.
