Speaking at a recent meeting of the County Cavan Joint Policing Committee Sinn Féin Councillor Damien Brady called for a CCTV system to be installed in Ballyconnell to counteract crime in the area.
“Some months ago I called on Cavan County Council in co-operation with An Garda Siochana to establish CCTV in some areas of our towns and I thank the members of the Council for supporting that motion. Unfortunately nothing has been done about this since and in Ballyconnell in one recent incident a flammable substance was poured into a post and it resulted in the loss for a period of the telephone system in my area,” Councillor Brady said.
“In another incident recently there was a very aggravated burglary and those responsible had to have been in town beforehand and could have been picked up on CCTV.”
Fianna Fáil Cllr Clifford Kelly also called for CCTV to be installed in Kingscourt.
He said, “Recently a man had a jeep and trailer stolen but he had to wait for Gardaí to come from Kells. Surely Gardaí from our county should be able to cross over the divisions to deal swiftly with such matters and CCTV should be in our area which could have picked up the persons responsible.”
