Balloon Release

Where: Lough Sillan, Shercock
When: Friday, September 18, 7pm
What: The 5th annual balloon release to remember our loved ones who died by suicide. Songs will be sung and prayers will be said. Please bring your own helium balloon.

Mr & Mrs
Where: Imperial
When: Friday, September 18, 9pm.
What: Mr and Mrs is being held to raise fund for Drumalee GAA Development fund! All monies raised on the night will go towards the building of new club hall and dressing rooms.

Ballroom Dancing

‘Culture of the Drumlins’
Where: Drumlane Community Centre, Milltown
When: Friday, September 18, 8-9.30pm
What: The event will centre on the culture of an area which has been shaped by a unique landscape of lakes and hills. Drumlane means “Droim Leathan” the “broad ridge” or “drumlin”. An evening of music, storytelling, history, the Robinson family and a talk on the landscape by the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark. A local walk will also be launched.

‘Live Drawings’ by Sally O’Dowd

‘Living Thing’
Where: Cavan Teachers Centre, 6 Main St, Cavan
When: Friday, September 18
What: Jackie O Neill, textile artist and Joe Doherty, wood worker focus on the theory that every living thing is evolving from, and revolving around a unifying centre – the Mandala. Plants, humans, animals, even myths and legends come together in that circle with no beginning or end. Opening features Kavan Donohoe on Harp. Runs until September 25.

Pottery Workshop
Where: Dowra Courthouse Creative Space, Dowra

What: Creative hand built pottery workshop for children and adults. An exhibition of ceramic work by Jim Fee with a selection of work produced by participants at Jim’s pottery classes over the past year. Exhibition: opening on the day, indefinite duration.

‘Irish Folklore & Song’

‘Tapas Theatre’

What: Theatre Lab and Cavan Sinfonia collaborate on a live music and theatre event: Tapas Theatre. A selection of “tiny plays” will be presented by Theatre Lab with live musical accompaniment by the Cavan Sinfonia Orchestra.

Ed Reavy Remembered
Where: Gallonray House, Maudabaun
When: Friday, September 18, 9.15pm
What: Historical displays of Ed’s life will be on display. The exhibition features images from his childhood in Maudabawn, emigration to the USA in 1912, the uniform he wore as President of Irish Musicians Union in US, and musical accomplishments in the US till his death in 1988. A session of music, song and dance, with the focus on Ed’s tunes follows.

‘In Praise of Culture’

What: Poets Heather Brett and Noel Monahan bring inspirational and uplifting song from the Kilmore Choir. A short walk and historic tales from Wendy Swan will lead from the Cathedral towards the ‘Sandy Walk’ though an old an ancient stepped archway to the community hall for refreshments. An enchanted setting with words and song

Accordion Concert
Where: Mullagh Hall

What: Castletown Accordion Orchestra will perform a free concert. Sponsored by Cavan Arts Council, they will perform both classical and contemporary pieces which is sure to entertain all ages. ‘Recital of Choral Works
Where: St. Clare’s Chapel, Cavan Town

What: Traditional and Classical pieces performed by Cavan Town Comhaltas musicians, young and old. The musicians will play a selection of music, including traditional, classical and choral pieces. There will even be some dancing!

‘Time and Narative’
Where: Thomas Ashe Street (outdoors), Cavan Town
When: Friday, September 18, after dark until 11pm
What: A digital projection display by artist Marilyn Gaffney of artwork in the form of still, moving images and sound. This work is from research while on residency at Bullock Lane. The work illustrates the personal stories of people and changes that urban memory has created in the town and surrounding areas.

Sheebeg Cairn talk
