SF welcomes Right2Change left alliance

Sinn Féin Senator Kathryn Reilly has welcomed party support for the broad policy platform agreed by Right2Change, the broad coalition of trade unions, civil society organisations, progressive political parties and independents that stemmed from the Right2Water movement.

“Right2Change has grown out of the Right2Water movement; the initial concern around water charges has led to the movement to turn its attention to other issues in society. After long discussions and consultations, broad policy principles have been agreed which we in Sinn Féin are happy sign up to and to endorse.

“It doesn’t replace any political party’s manifesto, but it does represent those points of commonality, where we agree. The policy principles represent a real opportunity in the forthcoming election to maximise the number of progressive TDs elected to the Dáil, and the potential for an alternative government.

“We believe there is a great opportunity now in the forthcoming election. We believe that there is a need for an alternative and progressive government. Sinn Féin wants to be part of that and we believe that parties and candidates who share this platform and who agree on these principles should, whilst attending to their own election campaigns, equally encourage people to transfer to other like-minded candidates.

“I am looking forward to working with community groups and like-minded progressive people in Cavan and Monaghan to dismantle the grasp of Fine Gael and Fianna Fail on the constituency and to work towards a fair a progressive and fair recovery in the counties. For too long, these parties have held a majority in the area and this has delivered failed boom and bust policies. This election is an opportunity to break from this tradition and to deliver social and economic progress for the area.”
