SIGN UP! Public meeting on Reunite Cavan campaign

Following on from the launch of The Anglo-Celt Reunite Cavan Campaign, there will be a public meeting on this issue on Thursday (August 4) at 9pm in the Hotel Kilmore, Cavan.
The Reunite Cavan Campaign has the support of all political parties and local voluntary and statutory organisations. This is an initial meeting, which has been called by Deputy Brendan Smith (FF) to prepare a strong and coherent campaign.
“People from all parts of the county are encouraged to attend as the reunification of County Cavan for Dáil constituency purposes is essential for the further economic and social development of our county,” urged Deputy Smith.
The meeting will be facilitated by an independent chairperson.
The campaign comes as the recent CSO preliminary figures show that the population of County Cavan now stands at 76,092 - up 3.7%. This means that Cavan-Monaghan is now one of 25 constituencies nationally that are under represented in the Dáil with less than one TD for every 30,000 people, contrary to the Constitution.
Minister Simon Coveney has also re-established the Constituency Commission to study the boundaries for Dáil and European elections.
After it last met, the Commission split Cavan, moving 36 electoral divisions or roughly 13,000 people in west Cavan, into a new Sligo-Leitrim-West Cavan-South Donegal constituency.
