Humphreys welcomes over €178K for youth projects in Cavan and Monaghan

The Minister for Arts Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Heather Humphreys, has today (Monday) welcomed the announcement by Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Dr Katherine Zappone, of funding of over €178,000 for youth projects in Cavan and Monaghan.

This capital funding scheme will provide almost €2 million nationwide in assistance to youth projects for the improvement of services to the benefit of young people involved. The funding released has been divided into two categories. Type 1 provides for the upgrade or replacement of equipment to support the running of the project, and Type 2 will fund health and safety improvements to the premises used, and enable access to young people with disabilities, including those with physical or sensory disabilities.

'I am delighted to welcome the funding announced by Minister Zappone to three deserving projects in Cavan and Monaghan, each of which will benefit greatly from grant allocations,' said the minister. Castleblaney Youth Information Centre is to receive a total of €60, 554 for the provision of Pop up Youth Information Clinics and the development of a sensory garden; Youth Work Ireland Monaghan Child Wellbeing Centre is to receive a total of €68,080 for works to update and enhance games amenities and to fund development works to resurface and refurbish the Youth Centre and The Cavan Centre is to receive funding of €50,000 for an extension to the accommodation unit to improve access to young people with disabilities.

'Projects such as these work extremely hard to provide much needed support, information and training to young people in the community. This funding will be of major benefit to the young people in Cavan and Monaghan, and will enable these projects to keep up the great work they have been doing to date,' she said.
