Over 860 Cavan students to receive their Leaving Cert results today

Some 868 students across Cavan will receive their Leaving Cert and Leaving Cert Applied (LCA) results today (Wednesday) after a long and agonising wait all summer. Of those, 809 sat their Leaving Cert in Cavan schools; while 59 completed their LCA, writes Ultan Sherry.

In both sets of exams, almost exactly the same number of males sat the respective papers as did females in Cavan. In Monaghan, meanwhile, a total of 850 students are awaiting results for both the LC and the LCA.
The results are available online, by post or in schools. The SEC will make all Leaving Cert results available online from noon on examinations.ie
To access the result online, a student or their representative will need both their Leaving Cert examination number and an individual PIN code supplied to them earlier this year by their school. Anyone missing either number can secure it through their own school today or tomorrow.

Helpline
For many, their hard work and endeavour will have paid off, but for some, there may be disappointment.
It’s important to emphasise though, that even some students don’t get the results they hoped for, other options are available. From this morning at 10am, the Exams Helpline, run by the National Parents Council Post Primary and sponsored by Eir, will be open to take calls from students, parents and teachers who may have concerns about results, appeals and the next steps after the exams.
The number to call is 1800 265 165. The opening hours for the number are 10am to 7pm today and tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday; from 10am to 1pm on Friday, August 19; from 8am to 7pm on August 22-23 and from 8am to 1pm on August 24.
“There is a huge amount of information now online and this can become confusing for students in a time of need.
Picking up the phone and being able to speak to a qualified guidance counsellor can really help clarify options for parents and students and relieve some of the stress that often comes at results time,” according to Lynda O’ Shea from the NPCPP.

Alcohol warning
Students are also being advised to drink sensibly when celebrating their results this evening and plan ahead. Interim CEO of Drinkaware, Yvonne Rossiter, stated: “The post-results celebrations do not have to be synonymous with the now expected reports about drunken teenagers spilling out of nightclubs across the country. We simply should not accept that the two go hand in hand”.
For this reason, students celebrating are advised to talk openly to their parents about what their plans are for tonight and always remember that safety is the most important thing.
