Minister announces €12k funding for local museums

The Minister for Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs and local Fine Gael TD, Heather Humphreys, has today announced funding of €12,000 for local museums in Cavan and Monaghan.

Announcing the funding, Minister Humphreys said: “I am delighted to announce funding of €7,500 will be provided to Cavan County Museum. The museum will use this funding for their project “Outside Learning History” the main aims of which will be creating an outside classroom and exhibition area to enable interactive learning covering the decade of commemorations and also installing interactive computers which will tell the story of the Easter Rising.

“I am also providing funding of €4,500 to Monaghan County Museum. This funding will be used to fully conserve and restore a historic book of Castle Leslie Estate maps dating back to 1829, which were donated to the museum by Sir Jack Leslie.

“This funding is being provided under my Department’s Local and Regional Funding Scheme 2016. It’s important that we invest in our local museums across the country and support their development of new projects and ideas. I have no doubt that this funding will further enhance the unique experience offered to visitors at both Cavan and Monaghan museums.”
