Cavan and Monaghan ETB backs call to Re-Unite Cavan

Cavan and Monaghan ETB has joined the growing list of organisations backing the call by The Anglo-Celt to Re-Unite Cavan.

A motion was unanimously passed at today's Board meeting in the Garage Theatre in Monaghan Town, on the proposal of Deputy Chairman Seán McKiernan from Bailieborough, and seconded by Cllr. Clifford Kelly from Kingscourt.

The wording of the motion read: 'That Cavan and Monaghan ETB support the civic/non political campaign by The Anglo-Celt, Cavan County Council, and other local groups to Re-Unite Cavan in the context of the old Cavan-Monaghan Dáil constituency comprising both counties fully.'

Speaking after the meeting, Mr McKiernan stated: 'Cavan and Monaghan have a population that merits five seats within the full two counties, and I want to see that happen again.

'We deserve the highest quality and quantity of representation in the Dáil, especially as we move into an era of 'New Politics' and minority Governments where the role and influence of TDs, even in on the backbenches or Opposition has increased significantly. I thank Cllr Kelly for seconding the motion, and for my CMETB colleagues for passing it unanimously.'
