Las Vegas Night fundraiser for school ASD unit

A major fundraiser in aimed at funding the development of a new extension to St Patricks National School, Castletara, to include a newly developed autism unit will take place later tonight.

The Vegas Experience Night takes place at The Imperial Hotel, Cavan Town from 8pm, with tickets costing €20, and prizes on the night including for best dressed male and female. Only a limited number of tickets will be available on the door on the night.

All proceeds will go towards the purchase of a site to build three specialised ASD rooms, a mainstream classroom, and extensions to the sports hall and car park.

A great night’s entertainment is guaranteed, with Special Guest Johnny O’Keefe from Northern Sound on hand to compère the evening.

The event is a follow on fundraiser from the school's hugely successful 'Le Chéile Cookbook', launched at Taste of Cavan 2016.

Titled 'Cooking together to build a better future', priced €10, the book features recipes by recognisable names across a wide spectrum, from award-winning chefs to politicians, entertainment and sport, and several from parents and students also. Chance making RTE's Ella McSweeney's 'Spiced Spuds', or 'Fish Parcels' by FAI Chief John Delaney, or perhaps tuck into a dish of Big Tom's 'Irish Stew', followed by a health dollop of Fianna Fail TD Niamh Smyth's 'Banoffee Pie'.

Filled with 56 delicious wholesome recipes all the family can enjoy, its food for the heart and the soul as dotted throughout the cookbook are inspiring and insightful quotes from contributors giving personal understanding and first-hand experience of living or working with persons with autism.

The school is currently looking to raise tens of thousands of euros through the sale of the book, with the cost of the specialist equipment needed to kit out the new room costing in the region of €5,000 each.
