Landmark hotel shut for New Year

The Slieve Russell Hotel, which was forced to close due to an increased outbreak of the Winter vomiting bug (Norovirus) among residents, staff and patrons, is expected will remain shut until the New Year.

The hotel posted on their Facebook page on Christmas Eve last, December 24: “We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our loyal customers and friends and very Happy Christmas & Peaceful New Year. We will see you all in 2017 when we are back doing what we do best for you all, Thank you all for your support. From all the Management & Staff x.”

There is presently a high incidence of this infection in the community in Ireland and outbreaks have been noted in hospitals, residential care homes and schools throughout the country.

Since the closure, hotel staff have been working closely with the HSE to implement the recommended measures and minimise the risk of further infections. That now includes a full deep-clean of all surfaces and furnishings, and its expected the hotel will re-open as soon as all possible environmental sources of the virus have been disinfected.

The outbreak of the Norovirus curtailed the luxury four-star West Cavan getaway's festive line-up of events, including planned entertainment, its hugely popular regional attraction 'Santa's Magical Kingdom', and New Year celebrations.
