Monaghan arrest in Irene White murder investigation

Gardai have arrested a man in his 30's in the Co. Monaghan area in connection with an on going investigation into the murder of Irene White in Dundalk almost a decade ago.

The arrest took place this morning, and is in connection with the ongoing investigation into the murder of Ms White in the Louth town back in April, 2005.

The man is currently detained at Dundalk Garda station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The mother of three had just returned home to her house known locally as “Ice House”, beside Ice House Hill Park when its believed Ms White's murder occurred.

She had been stabbed a number of times, and had been in the kitchen cleaning up the delph and cutlery after breakfast on the morning of April 6.

At 12.30pm, Ms White's mother at the rear of the property discovered her daughter's body in the kitchen.

Gardaí believe a man had entered the kitchen and fatally stabbed Ms White before fleeing the scene over the back wall into Ice House Hill Park.
