Barry John Crowe during his World Record attempt

Relive Barry John's sausage making World Record

A Cavan man has smashed the existing World sausage making record live on air on RTÉ One's 'Big Week on the Farm' at Maudabawn, near Cootehill.

The pressure was on Barry John Crowe (36) with an adjudicator from the Guinness Book of World Records breathing down his next, an audience led by RTE presenters egging him on, and the President of the GAA on time-keeping.

Hoping to beat the existing record of 60 sausages made in 60 seconds, the local man not only beat the benchmark, but showed sizzling form to absolutely demolish it, making 78 sausages in the relatively meagre timeframe.

Each sausage had to be four inches long and had to perfect, according to the official adjudicator Jack Brockbank, who confirmed the Record much to the delight of all present at Shalvey's farm.

Barry John had a month to get match fit but has been making sausages since he was 13 with his family butcher shop.

“It is a great achievement, I am delighted to be able to have done it. It came as a bit of a surprise to be asked to do it so to be able to manage it on live television is great. Having the name in the Guinness World Record is definitely a bonus!,” he told the show.

Congratulations, Barry John!
