Cavan basks in mini heat wave

Today is the hottest day of the year so far with temperatures in Cavan hitting 26 degrees Celcius and set to remain in the 20s right up until 8pm this evening.

As the country basks in a mini heatwave, weather forecasters say that the good weather, for the most part, looks set to continue throughout the weekend.

The latest weather forecast for the region from Met Eireann says that it will be mild and humid tonight with clear spells.

Fog patches will develop locally. Lows of 11 to 14 Celsius in light to moderate southeast winds.

Tomorrow (Friday) will be a warm and humid day. It will be dry in most areas with sunny spells but cloud will increase from the west bringing outbreaks of showery rain to western parts during the afternoon and evening. Highs of 22 to 26 Celsius in moderate south to southeast winds but cooler near coasts.

There are some showers expected on Saturday - some of them may be thundery - but average temperatures are still expected to be around 17 degrees Celcius. The east of the country is set to get the best of the weather this weekend with a 'hit-and-miss' chance of showers for Guns N' Roses concert goers in Slane.

On Sunday, thundery conditions are threatened. Temperatures will become somewhat cooler with the chance of some heavy showers. Rain will be most likely in the west and north.
