Rain weather warning for region

After the sunshine comes the rain, and with typical Irishness there'll no doubt be some of us having a moan 'Buíochas le Dia, that was too hot altogether'.

Well wish no more, and look no further than national weather service, Met Éireann who have issued a 'Rainfall Warning' for counties Cavan and Monaghan, as well as Leinster.

The forecaster has warned of “widespread rain” with the risk of “heavy and thundery downpours” for a time on Saturday, which may lead to accumulations of rainfall of up 30mm.

The warning was issued yesterday afternoon, and is valid for the 12 hours period between 3am and 3pm on Saturday.

The return to normal broadcast, or forecast arrives after the the hottest day of the year so far on Thursday, with temperatures in Cavan peaking at 26 degrees Celcius in some parts.

The mini heatwave was warmly welcomed throughout the county as families and communities from Mullagh to Dowra dusted off their rusty barbecues and beelined for their back gardens or nearby stretches of water.

Those high temperate conditions have continued into today with highs of 22 to 26 Celsius, rivalling conditions in the Canaries off the coast of Spain.

The change in weather will be least welcomed however by the tens of thousands of people set to descend upon the picturesque Slane Castle at the weekend.

Hoping only to hear 'November Rain', they may now be set for somewhat soggier surrounds as they await legendary rock act Guns N' Roses.

Approaching the Slane gig, the first show on GNR's European tour and the first since a show in Dubai in March, close to 80,000 tickets were sold-out in less than 24 hours, many of them in Cavan and Monaghan.

Meanwhile, temperatures are still expected to be around 17 degrees Celcius.

On Sunday, thundery conditions are threatened. Temperatures will become somewhat cooler with the chance of some heavy showers. Rain will be most likely in the west and north.
