Extra study pays off for St Mogue's

'Every year we are only more and more delighted to see what our students have achieved,' says Ms Connaghan, with more than 60% of St Mogue's Leaving Certificate year earning more than 400 points.
'There are quite a few too who have gotten over the 500 mark too, but we're very proud of all our students. It's been a busy year, a lot of work has been done I know by the students, but by the teachers here too. We are a small rural school, so I think celebrations like today are something that's shared locally and it's great.'
The school put in significant extra work with last year's Leaving Cert class, including study classes for a month before the exams until 9pm, and even on Saturdays. Ms Connaghan says this was 'important' for students' preparedness going into exams.
'There is such pressure on students for college places, and an awful lot of competition out there for those that you feel you need to give them whatever advantage you can. It's one less thing to go into exams and worry about if you feel you're that bit better prepared.
'There is a good ethos in the school that allows that, of working together, and I feel the students themselves appreciate the effort that the teachers put in for them,' Ms Connaghan told The Anglo-Celt.
Also speaking to this newspaper, when collecting their results were a delighted Niamh Smith, who hopes to study Business in Dublin or Galway, and Shane Galligan who wants to study Law in DCU. Both achieved the required results, and eagerly await the CAO offers next Monday.
