A feast of culture across the county

LIVE EVENTS Culture Night runs across County Cavan today - Friday, September 22.

 

TURF

Turf invites the audience on an investigative journey, punctuated with provocative, fiercely athletic and beautifully detailed movement. Situated somewhere deep within the Irish soul, it tells the story of one life, but many selves.
This theatre piece talks to us about our relationship with the bog. It is written and performed by Frank Farrell, Longford native and directed by Rowan Tolley.

ANKOR

Ankor is a European movement-based arts practice community, at Cavan hothouse research residency.
Maria Kerin, a multi-disciplinary artist-curator who has worked on projects on embodied creativity will take part in a peer to peer sharing with Helle Kvamme, artist-curator from Sweden, Russell Browne, USA, dance artist and scholar, Dr. Miread Vaughen, Ireland, contemporary dancer/choreographer and Irish artist Isolde Donohoe in a hothouse research residency, Cavan. A dance performance will be created.

VICKERS VIMY

Vickers Vimy five piece collective formed by Ed Drea & Fintan Hanley best described as folk/roots. They are a Galway based band and return to Cavan County Museum by popular demand.

THE AUTOMATED ORCHESTRA

The much awaited opening of the interactive musical exhibition born from a body of Robbie Perry's work through the last decade, created and constructed from recycled materials and re-purposed objects. “Punk Opera” - A new performance built from raw energy, where wild stories are told through Machines, Beliefs and the Netherworld. Created by Robbie Perry (musician) with his 'Automated Orchestra', Philip Doherty (spoken word) and Niamh McCormack (opera singer).

REAVY'S MUSICAL CAVAN

A group of musicians and admirers of the Maudabawn composer, Ed Reavy will play 20 compositions by the great man which he dedicated to places and people from his native Cavan.

CHILDREN'S ART AND CRAFTS

Celebrating children’s arts and crafts, dance, music and song for five years to 12 years. Event run by Edel Crowe of Bee Creative. Performances by Cavan String School, Kyle Riley, Little Folk, Aoibhneas School of Music, Caidreamh Traditional music group, Cavan Set Dancers, Marion Crowe Set and Sean Nos dancing and Pascal Lyons Irish Dance School.

Nyah Comhaltas Branch brings traditional arts and the photographic archive to Bridge St, Cavan for an extravaganza of traditional arts.
