Holy Family School build to start in New Year

The disgraceful facilities endured by staff and pupils of Holy Family School - which saw some children with disabilities taught in a store room or corridor - will soon be consigned to the past.

Builders will be on site in the New Year to construct a brand new school, the plans for which have been revised upwards from a 21-classroom building to include 26 classrooms. That will more than facilitate the current student population of 165 young people from across counties Cavan and Monaghan and cater for growing demand.
“I like the site here in Cootehill and the goal now is to build the school as soon as possible in 2018,” said Minister for Children with Disabilities, Finian McGrath, who paid a visit to the overcrowded school campus last Monday morning to deliver the good news in person. He revealed that a decision on a tender to build a brand new school will be awarded within weeks.
The multi-million euro school complex is included in the government's Capital Plan and the Independent TD responded to an invitation by Deputy Niamh Smyth (FF) to visit the school last week.
