The HSE and St Christopher’s Committee have agreed to commission a feasibility study with aview to delivering a fully functioning inpatient hospice in Cavan.

The study will be undertaken to ascertain how best to deliver the facility while maintaining full services for all those who utilise the current St Christopher’s building.

The feasibility study, a HSE spokesperson said, will take on board the views of the current residents, their families and all other relevant stakeholders. It will also seek to establish what services can be accommodated on the current St Christopher’s site so a plan can be devised to develop appropriate accommodation.

The study its expected will be completed by end of February 2018.

John Hayes, Chief Officer for Community Healthcare Organisation Area 1 (Cavan, Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim & Monaghan) stated: “I wholeheartedly welcome this progress and we will continue to work closely with the St Christopher’s committee to deliver this much needed facility for the people of Cavan/Monaghan.”
