New campus for Cavan Institute to be developed in Cavan Town

A new Cavan Institute campus will be built at the former Army barracks on the Dublin Road, it has been confirmed today.

Fine Gael Senator for Cavan, Joe O’Reilly has welcomed the development as "great news for both the town and our entire county".

“I am delighted with this investment in our educational infrastructure in Cavan under this Fine Gael led Government. This announcement delivers on a commitment provided to me by our last Taoiseach, Enda Kenny TD when he visited Cavan town."

He commended the chief executive of the Cavan and Monaghan ETB, John Kearney, teaching staff, students and members of the wider community for their hard work "in leading the campaign to deliver" a new campus.

“This investment to develop the army barracks site into a new, state of the art, educational campus will greatly benefit our local community and students from across Cavan, Monaghan, and further afield.

“The confirmation of a new campus for Cavan Institute is testament to the work of all of the teaching staff who deliver great results, and have been integral to the growth of the college.

Brexit

“In light of the challenges posed for border communities by Brexit, this investment is a sign of this Government’s commitment to safeguarding our communities, and working to protect our local economy in Cavan.

“Continued investment in our educational infrastructure in Cavan, at primary, secondary, and third level is of the utmost importance in terms of supporting our economy, and providing our younger generations with every possible opportunity in life.

“I will continue to use my voice in Seanad Éireann, as the local Fine Gael representative, to ensure the needs of Cavan, Monaghan, and the wider border area are heard and delivered upon."
