Father to remember late son in big cancer fundraiser!

A Cootehill man is organising a major fundraiser in memory of his son and other family members who lost their battles with cancer in recent years.

Eddie Hall is hosting the first big local fundraiser of the year when he will undergo a ‘Head-Beard Shave and Leg Wax’ to raise money for Cavan/Monaghan Palliative Care and St Christopher’s Hospice, Cavan.
These organisations are dear to his heart, particularly because of the support they gave to his son, Christopher, who passed away in March, 2015.
Explaining his motivation to organise the event, Eddie said: “I lost three family members inside of 12 months to cancer, one of them being my 28-year-old son Christopher who bravely battled cancer for seven years and Palliative Care played a big part in looking after them.
“St Christopher’s Hospice made Christopher’s last few weeks in this cruel world very comfortable, so I am holding this fundraiser for these two charities to show my appreciation and thanks for all they have done for me and my family.”
Christopher had taken family and friends alike by surprise when he and his true love, Mary O’Reilly from Cavan Town, decided to tie the knot at Cavan Cathedral only two months before he passed away.
Dad Eddie will undergo the daunting shave and wax in Nulty’s (Oakland Arms) on Friday, February 2, and people are being asked to generously give sponsorship to the popular local community and Facebook activist through sponsorship cards or online via a ‘GoFundMe’ page (Eddie Hall) set up last week.
The online page has already raised a significant portion of its €2,000 target.
A number of other foolhardy friends have agreed to have their head or beards shaved or parts of their bodies waxed to help the cause and, they too, are raising sponsorship from their own friends and contacts.

Night for community

As Eddie himself puts it: “This will be a great night for all the community, with some local legends getting head shaves, beard shaves and leg waxing.
“It will be a fun night with a bit of pain thrown in for good measure!
“There will be plenty of spot prizes, along with music from local musicians, which promises a great evening for all — so please come along and support this event.”
Eddie appealed: “Every little penny counts, so please don’t be shy and show your support by donating!”
