N3 remains closed after serious crash

Diversions on the N3 remain in place after a serious collision earlier today.

The crash occurred between Butlersbridge and Staghall involving a collision between a truck and tractor at about 12.30pm. The main road has been closed since to enable Air Ambulance, paramedics and the gardaí attend the scene.

Cavan County Council estimate that the road could be reopened at approximately 6pm. Diversions are in place through Belturbet Town. 

A council spokesperson advised that roads are being salted again this afternoon from 4pm. Additionally, Met Éireann has issued a status: yellow rainfall alert from midnight tonight until Saturday night, so drivers are asked to drive safely this weekend.

Motorists are advised to please take care, reduce speed and follow the signs.
