Nicole McEnroe poses for a snap in her Debs dress.

Huge response to kind dress offer

A young Cavan woman who offered her debs dress online to other girls who otherwise “may not be able to afford the expensive costs” of the lavish end of school affair, has been overwhelmed with the response to date.

Inspired by a similar type gesture she had seen before, Nicole McEnroe from Virginia posted photos of her stylish dress to local buy and sell pages on social media last week. She subsequently received not only dozens of requests for the dress, but also plenty of messages from complete strangers touched by her generosity. Speaking to The Anglo-Celt, Nicole, who works as a hairdresser since leaving school, said he had been spring cleaning her wardrobes when she came across the dress that was worn just once.
The debs she attended was that of her good friend, who also owned the impressive New Holland tractor which features very prominently in one of the pictures posted by Nicole.
“I was clearing out some old stuff from my room and seen it hanging up and thought it would be a kind gesture to do for someone that might need it a little more than me, and not to let it go to waste. So I posted it on Facebook and will give it to someone that is in need of it as I know how hard it is for people to afford these dresses new and second hand as well for that matter,” explained Nicole.
Nicole’s message on Facebook read: ‘I would hate to see it be stuck away and never used again when it could help out someone else’, adding that while is ‘isn’t anything fancy, it it looks good and is very comfortable and easy to move in’.

Interest

In a matter of minutes Nicole was inundated with messages. She tells the Celt that she appreciates kind messages and comments people have sent. “I have had loads of messages regarding the dress and lots of nice ones saying I was doing such a good thing, but overall yes it has being a good response to my post on Facebook.” She adds: “I haven’t decided who yet to give it to, as I have that much interest in the dress but I really would love to see it going to someone that is in need for one.”
