An emotional Rachel Cusack from Killinkere after being crowned the 2018 Cavan Rose.

Killinkere's Rachel is new Cavan Rose!

A 25-year-old Oncology nurse from Killinkere has been selected as the Cavan Rose for 2018. Rachel Cusack, now living and working in Galway, will represent the Breffni County at the international Rose of Tralee festival in August. She took the crown and sash from outgoing Rose Paula McParland at the selection night in the Hotel Kilmore last Friday night.

One of the Killinkere GFC Ladies, Rachel was sponsored by Matthew's Bar in Virginia. Her mum is a Kerry woman and her dad a true Cavanman. Rachel also has two younger brothers. For full interview with a delighted Rachel, see Wednesday's Celt.

Meanwhile, Laura Galligan, co-ordinator from the Cavan Rose Centre, thanked all of the sponsors of this year's Cavan Rose and wished Rachel the best of luck going forward in the competition.

Ollie Turner, Galway FM, was the MC on the night.
