Lots of entertainment on offer this weekend

With the August Bank Holiday just around the corner there is a startling amount of entertainment on offer this summer weekend. The county plays host to two remarkable festivals as well as a number of other worthwhile events.
The Country Music Festival organised by Mullahoran GFC will bring some of the finest names in country music to town. Running from Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd July there are a list of top class artists to see.
On Friday Allanah Maher is followed by Derek Ryan; Saturday Lisa McHugh and Ciaran Rosney are the draw; while on Sunday Cliona Hagan and Johnny Brady take to the stage. In recent weeks the park and complex have been getting a facelift and the “stage” is now set for Mullahoran’s very own carnival. Back to the Springs

On Saturday Crosskeys National School are presenting “Back to the Springs” a nostalgic return to the 80s and 90s with a disco in the Carraig Springs. This fun throwback evening will also be a chance to win some fabulous prizes.
Bailieborough has a weekend bursting with activities. The Mid-Summer Festival starts with a live broadcast from the town by Northern Sound.
Friday evening, the play ‘Little Gem’, directed by local man, Padraic McIntyre, will be coming to the Bailie Hotel at 9pm. Tickets are available from the Bailie Hotel reception for €12.
The Midsummer Festival Duathlon is also on Friday. This year, there are new exciting routes to suit all levels. There will be a 5k Family Walk or Run, followed by a BBQ for all participants, sponsored by Fox’s bar.
The event will start and finish on Main Street and registration will take place from 6.30pm with the event due to start at 7.15pm.
Saturday morning's Five –a-side Soccer tournament takes place at the Community School pitch from 11.30am-3pm for the under 12 and 14 age groups. This event is sponsored by Bailieboro Celtic AFC.
On Saturday afternoon, the ever popular ‘Teddy Bear’s Picnic’ takes place in Trinity Hall, Virginia Road from 2:00pm onwards. The entry is €5 with goody bags and drinks and don’t forget your teddies!
The Talent Show Auditions will be held in the Bailie Hotel next Saturday from 2-4pm. Booking is essential: bailieboroughmidsummerfestival@gmail.com Closing date is Friday at 5pm.
There will be a poetry and art workshop at the library from 2.30-4.30pm. This is a free event for children aged from 9 to 12 years, but booking is essential at 042 9665779. The workshop is entitled ‘A Lonely Girl in Bailieborough’, her story in your words and pictures, with Cavan writer and poet Heather Brett. This event is supported by Cavan County Council.
Also on Saturday the ‘Walking Treasure Hunt’is sponsored by Killinkere Pet Farm. It will take place around the town from 12 noon to 5.00pm, with registration at the Bailie Hotel.
From 4.30pm onwards an under 10 GAA Football blitz will take place in St. Annes Park. This event is sponsored by the Bailie Hotel. From 4.00pm to 7.00pm, a Car Treasure Hunt will take place sponsored by Kevin McIntyre Accountants. Registration to take place at the Bailie Hotel.
From 6.00pm, local DJ, Gareth Mulhall will be providing the music at the Market Square followed by live music from ‘Beatroot’ at 8.00pm. There will be an open air barbecue, activities and family fun.
Sunday sees the Family Fun Day taking to the Main Street. The road will be closed from 11.00am to 6.00pm. Admission is €5 for adults, with children going free. There will be: Bouncy Castles, Inflatables, Face Painting, Novelty Obstacle Course, Craft and Food Stalls, the infamous Ducking Chair, Kids Tractor Chaos, Total Wipeout, Local Clubs display, Vintage Display, Local singers and entertainers and much, much more.
Also on Sunday morning, at 10.00am, a mixed Historical Walk with John Ed Sheanon will leave the Market Square at 10.00am.
At 1.00pm, the final of ‘Bailieborough’s Got Talent’ will take place on the Main Stage. At 2.00pm, Stuart Moyles will provide music and then from 4.00pm to 6.00pm, there will be the ‘Jiving Competition’ with €600 in prizes to be won. Dance Champion, Gerard Butler will be the judge, with live music from headline act and acclaimed Country Music star, Johnny Brady.
At 10.00, the Festival Finale Dance will take place in the Hotel Bailie with free entry.
Lavey have a wonderful nigth on offer this Thursday with the launch of “Declan's Life Fund”. Starting at 9pm thre will be music by Eamonn Jackson, Dermot McConnell and Cajun Country and Ian Pickens. All in aid of a good cause.
Another Fundraising Concert will be held in Abbeylara Parish Centre on Monday, July 23. this is a fundraiser night for Vanessa Donohoe who is very ill in a Barcelona hospital. Admission is €15. Artists on the night include the following: Mick Flavin, Mary O'Connor, Cliona Hagan, Gerry Guthrie, Chuck & June, Martin Cuffe, Simon Casey, Gloria, Breda & Stephanie Donohoe, Dave Lawlor, Keelan, Frank Nelson & 7 piece band ‘Off the Kuff’ from Donegal.
Finally there is a 'Concert of Champions' in Drumkilly Hall on Friday night, July 20 featuring Mick Foster and Moyra Fraser and friends.
