Cavan's fab four call it a day

The Strypes have announced, with immediate effect, that they are splitting as a band.

After three successful albums together, Ross Farrelly, Josh McClorey, Pete O'Hanlon, Evan Walsh confirmed what had been swirling rumours in recent days, by releasing a message on social media to their fans.

“Over the past 7 years we have played in toilets and theatres, in cafés and castles, from Scotshouse to Tokyo and back again.

“We've been in bedrooms and buses, planes, trains and automobiles.

“We've been on telly, on radio and on record."

They added: “It's been fun and exciting, dull and dangerous, easy, tough, frustrating, satisfying and amazing. It's been a life and a living.

“But we've decided to call time on The Strypes.”

“Thank you all.”

As a postscript they added: “See you in the next cartoon!”

The rhythm and blues outfit have had incredible success since their rapid rise to fame following an appearance on the Late Late Toy Show in 2010.

The followed that appearance with number one Irish album and two top 20 albums in the UK- Snapshot (2013), Little Victories (2015) and Spitting Image (2017).

The band quickly rose to fame when they appeared on the Late Late Toy Show in 2010.

The band's 2012 debut EP Young Gifted and Blue, which they created when they were still attending as students at St Patrick's College, earned them international success.

They subsequently shared stages and studio space with some of the biggest acts in the music industry, including at Electric Picnic, Glastonbury and twice appearing at the famed SXSW in the US.

They also performed numerous times at Cavan's Townhall, the Chapter One Cafe Sessions, and Blessing's Bar.

Most recently, the members of The Strypes have attained further success with a foray into the film, with cameos appearance earned in the upcoming biopic 'Rocketman', detailing the career of Elton John, which is due for release in 2019.
