The College which will cost £ 1/2 million, with twenty percet of the cost to be raised locally, replaces St. Clare's Secondary School. The College will be run by an advisory board, made up of parents and teachers, representatives of the Bishop and local people. The local contribution has been estimated at £ 100, 000 of which £ 64, 000 has so far been raised. Plans also in hand to hold a series of night classes from October. The College was designed by Messrs Gaffney and Cullivan and the contractor was Mr. Tom McGurk, issue 8099, August 1982

A sailing boat, built by five Belturbet schoolboys in St. Bricin's Vocational School, Belturbet, was launched on Tuesday last. The launch is the end result of many months of diligent work by the students who produced a splendid craft. Before the launching took place members of Co. Cavan V.E.C. were taken on a cruise on the River Erne in a cabin cruiser. Pictured above is a group of boys from Claremont Boys School, Blackpool, England, all members of the school angling club, who recently spent a weeks holiday in the Lawn Hotel, Belturbet. The River Erne had to yield up a great number of its denizens - roach, rudd and pike - to these young experts, who enjoyed their visit so much that they have every intention of returning next year. They did not, however, confine their activities to the river. They organised Gaelic, soccer and table tennis matches with the youths of the town. Their master - in - charge, Mr. Brian L. Palmer ( extreme left ) and Mr. Tony Carroll ( extreme right ), were full of praise for the hospitality they received not alone from Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy McGuigan of the Lawn Hotel, but also from the towns people, Mr. Carroll's brother is a prominent businessman in Bundoran, April 1969, issue 6408

Children from Dublin's Inner city enjoying the facilities at Kilnacrott House, a former boy's secondary school which has been converted by voluntary youth workers into a holiday home. Over the past five years a Project Committee representing Tenant's Associations and Youth Clubs in the Inner City has renovated and decorated the building and provided playgrounds and sporting facilities. Senior pupils from Belturbet Technical School held up traffic nfor some time in Farnham Street, Cavan, yesterday ( Thursday ) when they sat down outside of the Cavan Vocational Education Committee in protest bagainst the Minister of Educations refusal to sanction Leaving Certificate Courses at Belturbet. The placard carrying, chanting pupils, numbering fifty were forcibly removed by Gardai as the lunch hour traffic jam began to build up. When all their attempts to sit down and continue the protest were scotched by the Gardai, the students marched to the Courthouse, where a district court was in session, walked around the building back on to the street, down Main Street and back to Farnham Street where a delegation were invited in to talk with the CEO, Mr. P. Our picture above was taken in Ballinagh which provided a welcome half - way house for the walkers in the Cavan - Ballinagh - Cavan 10 mile charity walk on Sunday last. The walk, which was in aid of the school for mentally handicapped children which is being established in Cootehill, was an outstanding success, April 1971, issue 7514

Sunday's charity walk to Ballinagh and back was a great success, with something in the region of 650 people taking part, the majority of whom were schoolchildren. Among the schools represented were St. Patrick's College, Loreto College, Technical School, De La Salle National School and Poor Clare Secondary and National Schools. The walk was started by Most Rev. Dr. Quinn, who led the walk through the town. He was accompanied by Very Rev. P. J. Gargan, April 1971, issue 7514

The heavy snow - fall this week, while causing widespread disruption of traffic business, etc. was given a rousing welcome by youngsters ( and the not so youngsters ) who revelled in the tobogganing, snow - balling and general winter mayhem, as typified by our picture above, taken at Co.
