Sonny Plunkett at work above, is one of the few stonemasons in Ireland that still work Carlow and Ballinasloe limestone with a Tungsten tipped chisel and hammer. His yard and workshop at Lisnadaragh off Drumlumman Hill overlook the lakes of Finea. Sonny did a course as a young man with the Marble Company in Dublin and since that time his sculptures include the fountain and altar at Kilnaleck Church, Christ the King at Ferbane, Co. Offaly ( a work praised by many of his craft ), Lady of Lourdes and altar at Carrick, Finea; a Celtic Cross for Mullahoran churchyard. Some years ago he took great delight in doing sketches and water colours, and recently has completed some designs for houses. At night he replaces his tools with a flute or fiddle for he is a great lover of traditional music, a follower of Michael Coleman and Sean Maguire, but if he had his wish he says, he would spend his time setting trees, May 1975, issue 7723
