Earlier this week Lough Sheelin was the venue for an instructors course on fishing. Instructors from all parts of the country took part on this course and the fishing was excellent. Evidence of this was the fact that the three fishermen pictured here caught 126 brown trout, average weight 1 1/2 lbs. with some fish weighing up to 3 1/4 lbs. Seen here ( l. to r. ) with 22 of the fish are - Russell Whiteman, Brendan Begley and Willie O'Donnell all hail from Derry and are instructors in the Peter Anderson International School of Fishing and Casting. This huge catch was taken on dry fly and buzzers. All three men were delighted with the cleanliness of the lake and commented that they were confident that within the next couple of years Lough Sheelin's reputation as one of the best trout lakes in Europe would be restored, October 1983, issue 8154

A party of eight French fishermen are the first guests in the new Farnham Hotel, Cavan which opened it's doors for the first time this week. They are for a 10 day pike - fishing holiday, and all are from Melun Seiniet Marne, which is just outside Paris.
