Architecture success for the St. Pat's TYs

St. Patrick's College transition year students with principal Dr. Liam McNiffe, TY co-ordinator Gwen Brady and architect Noel Brady.

The TY students at St. Patrick's College, Cavan have been selected along with their architect mentor Noel J. Brady on a national architectural exhibition.

A Space For Learning is the inaugural project of the Irish Architecture Foundation's new education programme. It featured more than 1,500 students in 90 schools working with 120 architects and architecture graduates around the country to design a creative response to the concept 'a space for learning'.

With the support and guidance of transition year co-ordinator Gwen Brady, students at St. Patrick's College have been working with Mr. Brady of NJBA Architects since the beginning of the academic year 2009/10. From initial words and sketches ideas were developed through collages. When gathered together several common strands emerged in relation to light, space, colour, work environment, nature, views and engagement.

The students then worked on ideas about individual spaces (rooms), which were condensed into a single exhibition model. The model and exhibition display which will show the students' collages and individual models will join the nine other finalists in a nationwide touring exhibition. The first official exhibition will be Dublin in November.
