Backstage Ireland is opening one of its performing arts academies at the Backyard arts centre, Moynehall, Cavan, this September.

Students will take part in a range of workshops from drama, mime and acting for film and television to circus skills, singing and a mix of dance from jazz to hip-hop/street.

The company has a strong reputation based on the quality of its work and the staff are are stage and television professionals with teaching skills.

Backstage Academy Of Performing Arts will run classes every Saturday from 3pm-6pm and it will be open to those aged from eight to 18.

During the three-hour session each week, students will undertake three different workshops. They are also sent to appropriate auditions and take part in presentations and shows during the year.

The company works to develop communication skills and self-confidence and Backstage's ethos is that young people should be seen and heard. The fee for the three-hour session is €15, payable weekly.

On Saturday, September 25, there will be an open day so that young people can come along and experience the work of the company before deciding to join. Those attending should arrive on time (3pm) and be prepared to stay for the full session. At the end of the open day, application forms will be made available to those interested in applying for a place. Entry to this taster session is free of charge and there's no need to book. Backstage does not hold auditions and places will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis.
