Erica to compete in Miss Ireland

Erica Joyce who will represent Cavan at Miss Ireland this weekend.

A 17-year-old Kilnaleck girl will be hoping to do Cavan proud when she represents the county at this weekend's Miss Ireland competition in Dublin.

Erica Joyce was drafted in as a last minute replacement after Miss Cavan 2012 Charlotte Fleming sadly withdrew due to a family bereavement.

Erica impressed the judges at the recent Miss Cavan competition held in the Imperial bar, Cavan, where she finished runner-up to the Kingscourt student.

She will now get the chance to enjoy all the glitz of the grand final in Ballsbridge Hotel on Saturday, April 28.

"We are thrilled and very proud of Erica, as she heads to Dublin to take her place on the prestigious Miss Ireland stage," enthused Linda O'Reilly, one of the driving forces behind Miss Cavan.

"It has been a very hectic and emotional week as, due to a family bereavement Charlotte Fleming decided she could no longer participate in Miss Ireland. Our thoughts and prayers are with Charlotte and we wish her all the very best.

"However we were delighted to have had a host of fabulous contestants take part in Miss Cavan, and Miss Erica Joyce was a very worthy first runner-up on the night.

"In fact, the Cavan panel of girls was so strong, that the top three girls were all offered modelling contracts on the night!

"Erica has stepped up to the mark with ease and confidence and although she has had next to no time to prepare it has not fazed her in any sense. The sporty student is thrilled, as it is an opportunity that most will only ever dream of and we are confident that this beautiful and bubbly young lady will be a fantastic ambassador for her home county on the Miss Ireland stage. We wish her all the luck in the world!"

Running alongside the Miss Ireland competition, is Miss Photogenic. In Miss Photogenic the public has the chance to vote for their favourite portrait from the full line-up of Miss Ireland contestants. The winner of this will automatically go into the final 15 of Miss Ireland 2012.

Although the other contestants have had a head start on Erica, and voting closes on Friday, the teenager's supporters hope that they can drum up local support during this brief window.
