Support can mean so much on Kayakarun
The people who stand at the side of the road cheering mean a huge amount to runners or cyclists struggling along with red faces (like this one). During the Cavan Kayakarun at Maudabawn on Saturday such supporters were everywhere on the route - the top of Peppers Bray, by the lake for the kayak leg, at the crossroads in Canningstown... and there was the group of little children on the road towards Cootehill holding the sign that read 'Keep Going'.

Citroën's new DS3 pushes the style boundary
The Citroën DS from the 1950s could well be one of the best cars of all time. Not everyone will know it by name, but it stood out for its futuristic looks and advanced technology. Citroën has revived the name for its new DS3, a much smaller car than its grandfather, but one that stands out in the crowd just at much, so we took it to Cavan Institute last Wednesday to see what the younger generation made of it.

Agri-food sector deserves support
Thousands have marched in Cavan and Fermanagh over the last two weeks, in worthy displays of support for the Quinn Group and the 5,500 jobs in provides in Ireland. It is hugely important in this area… as is the farming sector; both generate many jobs in a part of the country where there is not a lot of employment choice. The Quinn Group deserves our support. So do the farmers.

Toyota buyers stay loyal to their brand
What has Cavan got in common with Australia? It could be the watersports but it's not the beaches… Give up? It's Toyota. The negative headlines the brand suffered a few weeks ago don't seem to matter here or Down Under because the best-selling passenger cars in both places this year are Toyotas.

Their minister told teachers to take time off because of the cold, but farmers and the workers who service and supply them don't have that luxury. The dairy cows still produce milk, young animals are still being born, despite the temperatures, and all animals still need to be fed, so there's no such thing as time off on the farm.

Farmers cope with worst of weather
The farmers of Cavan appear to be coping reasonably well with the weather, if the experience of sheep farmer Robert Kells is any indication.
