Cavan Person of the Year for 2010 is David Mulligan
David Mulligan was named The Anglo-Celt Rehab Cavan Person of the Year 2010 at a gala banquet in the Hotel Kilmore last Thursday evening. David was nominated and selected for his work with many good causes - as he puts it himself to describe the number of charitable organisations he is involved with: "Variety is the spice of life."

Minister rejects criticism of payment schedule
Minister Brendan Smith has rejected recent criticism of his department in relation to the schedule of direct farm payments to some 110,000 farmers. The minister described the criticism and some of the recent commentary as “ill-informed and inaccurate. Farmers can be assured that their SPS and DAS payments are continuing to flow to them and will continue between now and year-end.”

Support can mean so much on Kayakarun
The people who stand at the side of the road cheering mean a huge amount to runners or cyclists struggling along with red faces (like this one). During the Cavan Kayakarun at Maudabawn on Saturday such supporters were everywhere on the route - the top of Peppers Bray, by the lake for the kayak leg, at the crossroads in Canningstown... and there was the group of little children on the road towards Cootehill holding the sign that read 'Keep Going'.

Thousands have marched in Cavan and Fermanagh over the last two weeks, in worthy displays of support for the Quinn Group and the 5,500 jobs in provides in Ireland. It is hugely important in this area… as is the farming sector; both generate many jobs in a part of the country where there is not a lot of employment choice. The Quinn Group deserves our support.
