Senior Events

The Cavan Kayakarun Challenge
The most popular event of the day is always the Cavan Kayarun Challenge. Anyone can do it, either as an individual or as part of a two or three-person team. It starts at Gallonray House with a 5k run to Barnagrow Lake. Here one of the most exciting and enjoyable sections of the race, the 1k kayak takes place. From there is another short run to the bike transition area, to commence the final section, the 16k cycle.

The Cavan Kayakarun Challenge XL
This section is for the very fit competitor and those who relish a new or tougher challenge. Introduced in 2013 for the first time, the entry for it at over 100 was impressive and proved there are many highly trained and motivated athletes out there.

This year the organisers have added in an extra challenge to spice up the race a little. There will be a second, 5k trail run which will happen in-between the 2k Kayak and the 54k Cycle stage. No doubt this new twist to the race will attract a very fit and tough breed of athlete to this year’s event.

The Cavankarun Challenge XL Stats with a 5 k Run, followed by a 2 k Kayak, followed by a 5k Cross Country Trail run and concluding with a 54k cycle.

Security and the safety of all the competitors on road, land and water is of paramount importance to the organisers of the Cavankayakarun.Every road junction is marshaled, direction signs are in abundance on the route, and professional life guards and rescue boats will patrol the lake for the kayaking course.Compititors in past events have been impressed with this high level of safety which is very much in evidence on all sections of the course.
