Equestrian
CAVAN Equestrian Centre held their annual August three day horse show last weekend from Friday last until Sunday. This show was a tremendous success attracting competitors from all over Ireland with 2000 entries over the three days.
Friday & Saturday were warm-up days for the championships on Sunday.
The 1.20m Championship was won by Capt Shane Carey riding the Minister for Defence Cashla Bay jumping a double clear in 25.11, second went to Conor Drain on Jim Maneely Starviews Pride double clear in 26.36 and third went to David O"Brien on Niamh Keoghs Ullrich, double clear in 27.04.
The highlight of Sundays jumping was of course the 1.40m Grand Prix. This Grand Prix was part of the National League and it was also the final leg of the Cavan Grand Prix League series.
Gerard Clarke from Ballivor, Co. Meath was leading the league since the July event and no one was able to beat him, so Gerard was the overall winner of this inaugural Grand Prix League taking home a cash prize of €2000. Second place went to John Floody and he also received a cash prize of €1000.
The Grand Prix had 58 starters with eleven jumping clear over course builder Tom Holden"s track to make it through to the second round.
Cian O"Connor first and second
The honours of the Day went to Cian O"Connor who claimed 1st & 2nd place. 1st Irish Independent Echo Beach (Cian O"Connor), 2nd Baloufina (Cian O"Connor), 3rd Simba (Sheila White), 4th Womack (John Floody), 5th Starboard (Olive Clarke), 6th Courtown (Alex Duffy).
The 4 Year Old Final was judged by Tom Byrne & Eamon Rice and was one by the RDS 4 Year Old Champion, Mullentine Parscourt One ridden by Capt Shane Carey, second went to Copy Cat ridden by Mark Kinsella and third went to Zappo ridden by Tom Hearne.
The final event of the day was the 1.30m Champion, this time it was a win for John Floody on Thomas Tait Syriana, double clear in 28.32, second went to Max 191 ridden by Dean Rogan and owned by Laurna Elliott double clear in 28.32 and third went to Nicola Wright on Leitrim Big Time double clear in 28.96.
