Cavan will meet Tyrone in the final of the Power NI Dr McKenna Cup next Saturday at 7.30pm in Brewster Park after Terry Hyland’s men proved too good for Monaghan today at the Enniskillen venue.

Cavan started sluggishly and were 1-1 to 0-0 down after seven minutes following a long-range free from goalkeeper Rory Beggan and a goal from Dermot Malone.

However, the Breffni men soon got to work and firsat-half points from the excellent Turloc Mooney (two), David Givney, Philip Tinnelly, Kevin Tierney, Niall McDermott and two from Man of the Match Eugene Keating saw them go in 0-9 to 1-5 ahead at the break.

Cavan were never headed thereafter, with the defence – led by Rory Dunne and James McEnroe – solid throughout and Cian Mackey turning in an outstanding second half.

Further scores from Keating – one a beauty from the right wing – and McDermott helped them on their way as they won pulling up, sub Martin Dunne kicking the final score of the contest from a free to make it 0-16 to 1-9.
