Captain's prize to the Ladies: Leslie McConkey's prize to the ladies was last Thursday in wet and windy conditions. This pre-drawn stroke competition was much coveted and the ladies fought hard to be among the number in the winner's enclosure this coming Saturday night. Captain Leslie was on hand to meet and greet the ladies as they came in off the course wet and dejected and he was met with "sorry Leslie, we did our best but no good". The course was playing very tough and the scores reflected the difficult conditions. No one escaped the downpours no matter what time they played. The importance of the occasion also provoked some uncharacteristic golf with usually steady players losing 3 or 4 balls on one hole and ladies scoring double figures on holes, that they would usually par, it was all very odd. However, many congratulations to the winner who was delighted when she heard the news and let out a rousing "whoooop!" because it's a long time since she was in the prizes, well done to Brid Finlay (21) with a nett 74. In 2nd place Mary Trant (15) with 78 nett and the gross went Marie Douglas (19) with 98. Well done ladies! Fixture Focus: Thursday 27th August brings the conclusion to the 4 ball better ball competition and the following Thursday 3rd September is the last major in the ladies calendar and again this is a pre-drawn competition so please check locker room for playing partners for the Monaghan Property Sales Trophy, good luck! Learner Ladies: The introduction to golf evenings for ladies, continues each Tuesday from 6.30pm and if there are any younger lassies wishing to have a go, the juvenile golf takes place on Mondays from 7pm. The ladies lessons will conclude at the end of August BUT don't despair because Brid Finlay is organising a few sessions with a professional for a very reasonable fee so if you are interested in a bit of professional one to one please contact Brid. And Finally: lady captain Teresa Fitzpatrick along with the ladies committee and all the ladies in the club wish Leslie McConkey the best of luck for his big day on Saturday! May the sun shine, may the scores be great and most of all may you enjoy every moment of your day.
