Gunner shoots the lights out in Minneapolis

It was an amazingly successful week for Cavan handballers in Minneapolis as the county took home five titles from one of the most prestigious competitions in the world, the US Nationals.

Pride of place went to world champion Paul Brady, who won an astonishing ninth Open Singles crown in emphatic fashion. Having suffered a rare defeat on his last visit to the States in April, the Mullahoran man - a member of the famed Gunner clan - bounced back to rout the field, easily dismissing Cork's Killian Carroll in the semi-final and Californian Emmet Peixoto in the decider.

Meanwhile, Mullahoran's Daryl Dolan took the C Singles crown in style, with Paul Fitzpatrick winning the B Singles and teaming up with Eddie Halligan to take the B Doubles crown.

Ballyhaise footballer Shane Briody was a late stand-in in the A Doubles and played extremely well alongside Clare's Fergal Coughlan to go all the way in that grade.

Also in action in the States were Kingscourt's Cormac McMahon, who reached the B Doubles decider with Dolan, and Ballyconnell dual star Cathal Sheridan, who was beaten in the semi-final of the C Singles.
