Medal winning performances by Catherina Mullen and Padraig Donagh
Shercock A C competed in the Inter County and Cross Country Championships of Ireland at the Curragh on the 25th November last.
Catherina Mullen underlined her growing reputation as a cross country runner with a stellar performance at the national championships.
After a slow start, which saw her buried in the pack for the opening stages, Catherina produced a typical battling run to move rapidly up the field reaching sixth place as the finish line approached. Despite a strong run over the last 100m, she was overtaken by two opponents, leaving her in eighth place at the line, her best result over the country to date.
Outstanding run
An outstanding run by a powerful Ulster squad also saw Catherina share in a gold medal haul by the provincial team.
Padraig Donagh has shown continued improvement over the country this season and once again had a very positive run at his first all-Ireland in the Curragh.
Emerging from the pack in a highly competitive under 12 1000 metres, Padraig produced a typical determined run to finish well up the field in 15th place at the finish.
Padraig was rewarded for his effort when the Ulster team picked up the bronze medals in the inter-provincial, earning him his second all-Ireland medal as a scoring member of the team.
Barry Cooney also enjoyed a positive run on the Ulster team in the boys u-14 competition, when finishing well in 34th place.
