Cavan are recipients
of Ulster Star awards
IT is an indication of the strength and depth of athletics in Co. Cavan to see four awards from around ten nominations presented to Cavan athletes who span a range of events at Ulster, National and International level at a function in Killybegs on Saturday of last week..
Sinead Moore, Annalee is a promising field athlete in the shot putt with Ulster medals to her name. Regina Dolan, Annalee, has shone at both distance and track events.
She has won Ulster titles in hurdles and cross-country as well as medals in the 800m. Regina has also won national medals in the hurdles.
Paul Smith, Shercock spans both track and field events. He had a tremendous year in 2007 at Ulster and National levels. He won gold and silver in Ulster in the Long Jump and medals in the sprints. He also won national medals in the Long jump and is one to watch.
Cian O`Reilly, Annalee had a fantastic year in 2007. A brilliant distance runner, he won Ulster titles in cross-country and then went on to win national medals in the same events. He also won medals in Ulster in the 800m. Cian is also representing the province in the Celtic International Games in Scotland this year.
National Juvenile Combined events
Creamer impressive
in two events
A NUMBER of athletes from Annalee AC competed in the combined events in Nenagh where they had to take part in five events, hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot putt and 800 metres.
It was well worth the trip when Andrew Creamer obtained a national medal in the U-14 boys taking third place and also recording a personal best in the high jump of 1.38 metres. The remainder of the athletes finished within the top ten with Aoife Murphy in 8th, Lauren Sexton 9th also recording a PB in the high jump and Yvette Schutten in 10th with a PB in the long jump of 3.7m. Darren Watters was competing a year out of age in the U16 boys but still delivered a credible performance finishing eighth overall.
Scottish Indoor Championships
Kevin McCloy, Shercock AC broke new territory when he recorded an impressive 49.41s to finish third in the 400m final at the Scottish Indoor championships.
This not only sets a new club record but also signals that Kevin is in the best shape of his life as he prepares for this year`s track season.
AAI Games
Gerry O`Reilly, Shercock AC, is back after injuries last year forced him to miss most of the track and field season. Gerry has started the year well winning the 200m. D race. Peter Muldoon finished just outside the medals in fourth place in the 3 km race-walk.
