THE Cavan senior, intermediate and junior football championship qualifier games take place this weekend. It all begins on Friday night with the junior championship qualifier quarter-final between Cornafean and Mountnugent in Kingspan Breffni Park at 8oc. On Saturday, it"s the turn of Knockbride and Ballinagh in the senior championship qualifier quarter-final in Breffni Park at 7.30 and will be preceded at 6oc by a quarter-final in the Intermediate Championship qualifiers between Cootehill and Laragh.
The Saturday programme continues with an Intermediate championship quarter-final qualifier between Killeshandra and Swanlinbar in St Aidan"s Park, Templeport at 6.30. There are two further games on Saturday and it"s the junior championship qualifiers between Butlersbridge and Corlough in O"Connell Park, Drumlane at 5oc and Kildallan v Maghera in Crosskeys at 6.30.
Sunday"s programme
Sunday"s programme includes senior and intermediate championship qualifiers. The big one involves Ramor and Gowna, two sides who have won the senior title on previous occasions, and they meet in the Lavey Grounds at New Inns at 6.30. Breffni Park will host the meeting of Belturbet and Lacken also at 6.30.
The only other championship fixture on Sunday involves the intermediate quarter-final qualifier between Drumalee and Ballymachugh in the Athletic Grounds, Crubany at 6.30.
Crosserlough"s encouraging display
Crosserlough"s victory over Gowna in the senior championship replay at Breffni Park on Saturday last was most encouraging for the club and its team management led by former Meath star Ollie Murphy. The Kilnaleck-based club have been out of the championship limelight for a number of years and it will not be before time if they manage to regain the title they last won in 1972. To wait 36 years for another crack at the title after completing a record seven consecutive titles from 1966-72 is too long for such a proud club.
Quarter-finals
They have still a long way to go in the competition and face Killygarry in the quarter-finals at Breffni Park on Saturday 30th August at 6.30. On the following day, it"s the turn of Denn and Cuchulainns at 2oc and on Saturday 6th September, Kingscourt versus the winners of the qualifiers at 6.30, while on the following day Sunday 7th September, Cavan Gaels and Mullahoran do battle at 4oc.

On Saturday 6th September, it;s the turn of Redhills and Bailieboro at 5oc and on Sunday 7th September, Ballyhaise v the qualifiers at 2.30.
