Cavan 2-20

Roscommon 1-10

A haul of 0-10 from NFL debutant Raymond Galligan helped Cavan to blow a poor Roscommon side away in the Division Three opener at Hyde Park on Sunday afternoon.

Galligan caught fire after the break, when the sides were deadlocked at 1-6 to 0-9, firing over a succession of frees, two from play and a sublime sideline ball.

Ironically, the hosts were the better side early on, taking a 0-3 to 0-0 lead after ten minutes. However, once Galligan got Cavan off the mark with their first shot in the 15th minute, the visitors began to play with confidence and points from the excellent David Givney among others helped Tom Carr's side draw level by the half-hour mark.

A tremendous goal from Eoin McGuigan in the 43rd minute opened a four-point gap and Cavan kicked on in the final 25 minutes, with Galligan, Givney and Gareth Smith to the fore up front.

At the back Dermot Sheridan was rock solid and turned in an eye-catching display.

See this week's Anglo-Celt for full report, reaction and photos of the match and a preview to next Saturday's home clash with Antrim.
