ACFL round-up: League finalists decided in all three divisions

The ACFL Division 1 final will be contested by neighbours Ramor United and Castlerahan this Sunday following their respective wins in last night's semi-finals.

The Virginia men saw off Cavan Gaels in Crosskeys on a 1-13 to 0-10 scoreline. Ramor were 1-9 to 0-4 up at half-time but the Gaels made a game of it in the third quarter with five successive points before Ray Cole's side pulled away again, with respective corner-forwards James Brady and Keenan Donohoe both impressing for their sides.

In the other semi-final, Castlerahan saw off Gowna by 1-11 to 1-8 in Mullahoran in a scrappy encounter which was decided by a 65th minute goal from Cian Mackey.

Castlerahan started brightly but a mistake at the back let Gowna in for a goal from Ryan McGahern and with Mark McKeever influential, Conor Madden always dangerous and TJ Fitzpatrick chipping in with a brace, Gowna were the better team for the remainder of the half and went in leading by 1-5 to 0-6.

Castlerahan boss Donal Keogan introduced Karl Cosgrove and Oisin O'Connell to his attack at the break and that helped make a big difference, although the excellent David Wright went off 12 minutes into the half on a black card.

Shane O'Reilly was also outstanding for the Ballyjamesduff side, who came up with the goods deep in injury time when an interception from Ronan Flanagan and great play from O'Connell teed Mackey (who finished with 1-2) up for the goal.

Meanwhile, Ballyhaise, following on from their big home win over Cornafean, had a commdanding victoryover Bailieborough to secure their return to the top flight.

Some brilliant long-range points from Kevin Tierney and a goal from Michael Brady helped them into a 10-point lead at half-time. Sub Padraig Moore returned from injury and joined the fray in the second half, also bagging a goal, with Martin Conaty on the mark with a few points as well.

The Ballyhaise defence was excellent, with Gary O'Rourke impeccable in goals, Sean McCormack dominant on the edge of the square and half-backs Desmon Reilly and Aaron Watson impressing, with youngster Eoin Clarke doing well at midfield and chipping in with some good scores.

The Annalee Park men will meet Killinkere in the league final this Sunday.

Elsewhere, the Division 3 final will be between Drumgoon and Ballymachugh after the former held off Killeshandra to secure their return to Division 2.
