Town continue climb up table
Cavan Town impressed again last Sunday afternoon in Tullacmongan with a super victory which moves them into mid-table with three games in hand. Cavan Town needed to secure three points and from the first whistle they showed great determination and had chances before Robinstown were warmed up through Gareth Flynn and Barny Morris, Flymm shooting wide from the left side. Mark Ferncombe"s return to fitness was the lift that Town needed and on 15 minutes he opened the scoring. Great build up play from Brian Dolan and Barney Morris put the centre-forward through on goal and he quite calmly slotted the ball under the keeper and had Cavan in front. Within five minutes they went two ahead when Ferncombe became provider, this time for BarnEy Morris on the right wing. Morris took a pass down and ran at the defence and found Ferncombe who swung it back towards Morris, who got on the end of the cross and headed home, In midfield Cavan Town were on top with Brendan Smith and Vinnie Wimsey winning all the aerial ball and wisely passing to their wingers who in turn took the Robinstown defence apart, Gareth Flynn had a great game and was fantastic in defence also when needed and he was at hand to link up with Greg Meehan who got free on the right side and turned the ball to again Barney Morris who made it 3-0 at half time. The second half saw striker Brian Dolan replaced by Pauric Molloy, who offered great pace against a weak defence. Again in midfield Cavan were outstanding with Wimsey striking a volley from 30 yards just going high and over the bar, Michael Smith and Michael Doheny had chances from corners and it wasn"t long before Barney Morris had the hat-trick with Ferncombe playing a great ball through Stan McKeown who gently swept the ball to Morris, who executed a great finish to beat the keeper at the near post. Overall Robinstown were no match for Cavan Town who could have scored more. Best for Cavan were Mark Ferncombe and three-goal hero Barney Morris. Their performances were outstanding as Cavan continued their surge towards the top of the table.
