Town advance to CCL Cup decicer

A super first 20 minutes, during which they raced into a 2-0 lead, saw Cavan Town book their place in the cup final with a sensational win over Division One oppsition in Mullingar last weekend. Town won the toss and played with a favourable wind. On the ten minute mark Richie Graham swung in a corner which went all the way to Rooskey net to send Town into a 1-0 lead. With Brian Dolan and Tony Pryce on fire for the visitors, Town went 2-0 up on 20 minutes whe Dolan took the ball past two defenders and powered home. Rooskey had to push forward and on 43 minutes they pulled one back through a well-worked set piece. 2-1 down, Rooskey bombed forward with a pacy and physical forward line in the second half. Town dropped a midfielder back to counteract this with a five-man defence. Rooskey had numerous chances to go two all but super play by goalkeeper James Heffernan and defenders Michael Smith and Aaron Heffernan kept them at bay. Heroic defending saw Cavan Town hold on to win 2-1 and book their place in the cup final, which will also be played in Mullingar on May 9. Meanwhile, Brian Dolan hit a hat-trick as Town won 6-2 on Sunday in the league. Brendan Smith and James McKeown had Town 2-0 up after eight minutes. They are four points behind leaders Navan Cosmos with two games in hand.
