Cillian Sheridan

Sheridan on the move?

Not everything in life goes according to plan and Cillian Sheridan's loan spell with Plymouth Argyle is a classic example of that. The young striker joined the Coca-Cola Championship outfit back in August with a reputation as a promising footballer but after a positive start - his stint there badly fizzled out. Gaining his signature at the beginning of the season was regarded as a coup for the club but things have not worked out and Sheridan has failed to score a goal for the struggling club. After falling out of favour under Paul Sturrock, many expected Sheridan to be given a second chance to impress when the man who brought the ex-Bailieborough Shamrocks player to the club was relieved of his duties at the beginning of December. However successor Paul Mariner, chose to focus on the clubs own assets and was reluctant to turn to loan-players to help the relegation threatened club. To be fair, results at the club have improved under his guidance and they took maximum points from Reading and high-flying Cardiff over the festive period but Sheridan has been left warming the bench on some cold winter days. His six-month loan deal at the south-coast club is due to expire this week and a return to Scotland is almost certain. Despite his loss of form, interest in the forward, who memorably broke into Celtic's first team over a year ago to start against Manchester United in the Champions League, is still high. SPL outfit St. Johnstone have already inquired about the availability of Sheridan, while Aberdeen are also rumoured to be interested. The latter are currently under the guidance of Mark McGhee, who worked with the striker previously at Motherwell, and he is a long-term admirer of the ex-Cavan minor. "There's been a bit of interest but I'll just have to wait and see. I'll know more when I get back to Glasgow," said Sheridan. Given his age, current Celtic boss Tony Mowbray will almost certainly look to loan out the striker again to allow him to experience first-team football once more and regain his confidence.
