Vox Pop: Should town councils be abolished?

The An Bord Snip Nua report has generated quite a reaction for many of its proposals, including one that town councils should be abolished and their functions absorbed by county councils. With three town councils in the county - Cavan, Belturbet and Cootehill - there are many views on the issue in Cavan. Town councillors, however, adopted a motion at the Association of Municipal Authorities of Ireland (AMAI) conference last week that town councils serve an important function in local government and should not be abolished.
